Teer sad at Quinn departure

Teer had a lengthy talk with Quinn on Saturday evening before the two parties agreed to part ways and the chairman says it is a hard time for his board.

“The board, with regret, accepted Marty Quinn’s resignation,” he said

.”We were mindful of the fact that not only have results been below expectation over the four months of the season so far, we have also made little progress in the three years Marty has been at the club.

“It’s sad because as well as being widely respected in Irish League football, he had earned enormous respect in the Glenavon support and throughout the club. His overall management of the club was excellent but unfortunately he fell where it matters most; on the pitch.

“We were mindful of his track record in Irish League football and we gave him as long as possible to try and turn things around.

“There are those critics out there who say he got too long and got longer than anybody else. Marty got time because of his successes in Irish League football and the board were giving him as long as possible to turn things around.”

Quinn’s assistant manager, Packie McAllister has now taken the reigns as he looks to take advantage of this chance to prove himself and bag the job permanently.

“Packie has taken over as interim manager,” said Quinn.

“He is in charge of the playing side of the club on a temporary basis until further notice. He has declared an interest in the job.

“The real expectation is to keep us in the Premiership. When we’re sitting bottom of the table, survival is the main objective. We also have an eye on next season and rebuilding the club, hopefully as a Premiership club.

“We will need a manager who is going to be active in the January transfer window.”
