Madden’s goalkeeper Stephen O’Reilly stepped up to the mark with two commendable saves from Johnny Reynolds and Thomas McAlinden. Sarsfields’ Eamon McGeown, Colin Stevenson and Johnny Reynolds shot three more points over the bar and two scores from Madden’s Niall Grimley and substitute Kyle Morgan brought both teams into half time with a score of Sarsfields 0-7 Madden 0-4.

With the sun disappearing behind clouds in the second half, it was to be Madden’s Caolan Vallely to begin the scores with an opening point from play, however even with the wind in their advantage, Madden were not to score again until the final 10 minutes.

The highlight of the game came with a well calculated pass by Sarsfields midfielder Eamon McGeown to Thomas McAlinden who scored a notable goal, driving the ball into the top left corner of the net to put Sarsfields ahead by 5 points.

Colin Stevenson soon replied with another point but was to have yet another Sarsfields goal chance denied by Madden’s goalkeeper Stephen O’Reilly.
