Royal Mail says thanks for football kits

ROYAL Mail has thanked people in the borough for donating their old football kits to send to the Zomba Action Project in Malawi.

The appeal is part of a project undertaken jointly by Zomba Municipality and Coleraine Borough Council to build a community centre in the area with particular emphasis on the development of football. The kit will be used to help create better recreational activities for disadvantaged people in Zomba.

Andy Alcorn, Delivery Office Manager, Royal Mail, Coleraine, told the Times: “Response to my appeal has been tremendous with donations received from all across Northern Ireland and I would like to offer my sincere thanks to everyone who has donated their old kit, especially those people in the Coleraine area.

“I have received thousands of football related items ranging from tops, shorts and socks to full kits; boots; boot bags; shin pads; footballs and water bottles which will be packed into containers and every item donated will be sent off to Malawi during the summer.

“I know the young people in Zomba will be overjoyed when the kit arrives with them. They have very little to look forward to in their young lives and having a pair of boots or a shirt will be like gold dust to them.

“I would also like to thank Royal Mail and the Irish Football Association for their support in managing the logistics of collecting the kit at various venues throughout Northern Ireland.

“Although my appeal for kit has ended there is a continuous need for items, so, if anyone still wishes to donate their unused football shirts and boots lying around their homes or garages please forward them to me at Royal Mail’s Coleraine Delivery Office and I will gladly forward it on to the ZAP team in Malawi.”
