Nostalgia: Lurgan schools to the fore at public speaking competition

St Michael’s Senior High School was to the fore in Craigavon Road Safety Committee’s public speaking competition in 1985.

Sisters Bridgeen and Ciara McCloskey helped Lurgan schools complete a clean sweep of the top places.

Jenny McKee of St Mary’s Junior High, taking part in the most competitive group, 12 to 14 years, completed a trio of victories.

The judges were Ashley Friar, Gordon Bell and Jan Elliott, assisted by Gerald McLean, Bill Bell and Brendan McAuley from the local committee.
