Islandmagee pensioner passes test

A senior citizen from Islandmagee passed her driving test at the first attempt in November 1990.

Mrs Paddy Hanna had one lesson per week before taking her test.

She had been worried about the Highway Code as it was a daunting 183 paragraphs, but she knew her stuff when it came to the test.

“I couldn’t believe it when the examiner told me I had passed. It is great to be able to get about on my own without depending on someone else taking me.

“In my position, especially living in Islandmagee where there isn’t much public transport, it is practically essential,” she explained.

Her instructor said that Mrs Hanna was one of the oldest that they had had the privilege to teach.
