Celtic star opens new club

FORMER Scotland and Celtic full back Tommy Gemmell was the special guest at the official opening of the new Glasgow Celtic Supporters Club branch at Church Place in Lurgan in 1977.

Some 300 guests filled the new premises as the player performed the official opening ceremony.

The local club was formed in 1965. The weekly fee of two shillings and sixpence was collected from members every Sunday morning in the INF Club.

They progressed to premises in Edward Street two years later and in August of 1977 they bought the White Horse Inn in Church Place.
