No way Jose!

ONE of local football's most popular characters arrived back in the game last week and immediately declared: "Move over Jose, the real Special One is back!"

Mervyn McIntyre has taken over the reins at Ballymena League Division 2 leaders Finvoy and has immediately set his sights on league and cup glory.

The former Riada FC gaffer and assistant manager at Mosside took charge on Saturday for Finvoy's Linda Welshman third round tie with Newtownabbey 7's who are fourth in Division One.

And his tenure couldn't have got off to a better start with his new charges seeing off the hosts 3-2.

"The Special One is back!" laughed McIntyre.

"Jose is just the pretender, there's only room for one of us and I'm back in the game so so long Mourinho!

"I was approached last week about the Finvoy job and I didn't have to think long about it to be fair.

"I really fancied it. I knew most of the players already and we had a good training session during the week.

"In fact what we worked on actually helped win us the game.

"We spent a bit of time on set pieces and sure enough we scored from a corner on Saturday to help us on our way.

"On the day everything worked out perfectly and from the defence to attack, everyone did their bit.

"I always thought we were comfortable and looked dangerous throughout the game.

"But it was a really good result, especially on their pitch."

McIntyre has been away from football since stepping down from his post at Mosside and has been champing at the bit to get back in recent months.

"It's great to be back," he said.

"We have a great bunch of lads and I don't see why we can't go further in the cup and go on to lift the league title.

"We should fear no-one, in fact I think everyone should be wary of us."

Mourinho was unavailable for comment last night.
