No swift return for Ryan

LURGAN man Ryan Henderson has told the Mail he won’t be returning to play for his club Clann Eireann any time soon despite the fact he is on the transfer list at Linfield.

The former Armagh player has been listed along with other players at Windsor Park including former Portadown striker Matthew Tipton.

“I will have to see how this all pans out,” said Ryan. “If a club comes in for me I could end up playing a bit closer to home, but even considering this it would be very difficult to compete on a Saturday and then on a Sunday.”

With Clann Eireann rooted at the bottom of the second division having lost all of their five games to date, they would receive a major boost if Henderson was to solely concentrate on playing Gaelic, The Shore Road club who have been the envy of the county over the past number of years considering their well structured youth strategy are currently in the process of re-building their senior team and they will no doubt be a force in the not too distant future.

Two seasons ago the Clanns were promoted to the First Division with Ryan Henderson leading their attack, But for the meantime even the second flight could prove to be an uphill battle for the Lurgan side.

Ryan believes his former team mates will improve dramatically if they can get their first win. ”It’s all about the players keeping their focus. I think if the boys get their first win things could turn around very quickly,” added Ryan.

In the interim period Henderson, who could not be ruled out of again staking a place on the Armagh squad at some stage in the future, will have to watch from the sidelines and ponder his future in the Irish League or in the Armagh all County League.
