League title holders Loughanreagh show no mercy

In the first game Andrew Kelly (Ballinrees) had no answer to Alastair Steele’s rink and went down 16 shots to 4 shots.

Second up for Ballinrees was William Calvin and he suffered a similar fate losing 20 shots to 3 shots against Nigel Gamble (Loughanreagh).

It got no better in the second half for the visitors with Jonathan Kerr and Uel Gordon both losing to Ian Ross and Alan Irwin (Loughanreagh) respectively.

What a great match there was out in Dervock where St. Colman’s entertained St. Mary’s.

At the break St. Mary’s held a two shot advantage. Declan McCann (St. Mary’s) went down by one shot to Aaron Walker (St. Colman’s).

Over on mat two Sean Doherty (St. Mary’s) beat David Walker (St. Colman’s) 10 shots to 7 shots. David Gaile (St. Mary’s) and Ken Shirley (St. Colman’s) could not be separated on 10 shots apiece.

It was left to Martin McAleese to rescue St. Colman’s with an eight shots to six shots win over new signing Kevin McNamee (St. Mary’s).

This left the overall scores equal but by winning two rinks St. Colman’s got four points with St. Mary’s getting three points.

In the local derby the Marian gained the bragging rights by beating near neighbours, Second Kilrea. However they were made to fight hard for their win.

At the break the Marian were coasting with both Aidan Cassley and Gary Meron having good wins against Gordon Wilson and Hugh Paul, (both 2nd.Kilrea) to lead by 19 shots.

In the second half, Second Kilrea fought back with Nicky McCaw beating James Martin (Marian) 10 shots to 7 shots and Ivan Smyth (2nd. Kilrea) overcoming Brian McAlary (Marian) 9 shots to 6 shots. It was too little too late and the Marian gained the extra points.

Dunluce travelled to Finvoy and came away with 5.5 points. The first game was a cracker with Joe Moore (Finvoy) drawing with Alistair Kirkpatrick, 10 shots each.

Rodney Kane then put Dunluce in front with a 5 shots win against Mark Jones (Finvoy). Adam Hunter (Finvoy) squared the match with a 4 shots win over Tommy Mullan (Dunluce).

Ian Kerr secured the overall win for the visitors when he beat Chris Jones (Finvoy) 15 shots to 10 shots.

In Division 2, Dunloy Presbyterian had a good win over New Row.

Mark Shaw and Stephen Dunlop, both Dunloy Pres. beat Joe Elkin and Sammy McArthur (New Row) respectively to take the lead at half time.

Jonathan Elder pulled a game back for New Row when he overcame William McCaughern (Dunloy Pres.) but Thomas Paul sealed New Row’s fate with an 11 shots to 5 shots win against Mark Callaghan (New Row).
