Harryville make encouraging start to second division campaign

Harryville Community Centre haven’t let the loss of their home venue disrupt the start of their Ballymena & District League campaign.

Harryville have had to switch to the local church hall after the demolition of the community centre ahead of the scheduled rebuilding process.

But while it would have been easy for Harryville to be distracted by their move, it appears to have had the opposite effect and instead the Wakehurst side top the table after last week’s victory at Broughshane Playing Fields Association ‘B’.

Harryville claimed four points from their trip, from the rinks skipped by Harold Smyth - who won by five shots against Aidy Davison - David Wilkinson, a two shot winner against W Esler, while Gary Worthington had an 11 shot success over James Wasson.

Broughshane’s lone response came from George Davidson, who had a nine shot success against Joe Patterson.

The defeat for BPFA means the Knockan Road side have been joined on 10 points by Portglenone Community Centre and Golf Seniors.

The golfers had a five shot overall win at First Ballymena which yielded four points after wins from Ian Lecky, who won by five shots against Lyle McQuitty, while Ivan McMaster won by four shots against David McQuitty.

John Nichols added a four shot win over Jonathan Davison while the home side’s response came from Roland Woods’ rink who won by eight shots against Donald Smyth.

Portglenone made light of a tricky-looking trip to Services ‘A’ where a 25 shot win was good enough to earn four points.

The Bannsiders’ winning rinks were guided by Jim Gaul, Roy Hunter and Joe McErlean, while the Services rink in the hands of Bill Kitson had a three shot triumph over Kevin O’Kane.

DIVISION THREE

In the third division Services ‘B’ claimed four points against West Church in their game at Dunclug with winning rinks skipped by John Smith, Greta Coulter and John Simms.

Maurice Livingstone’s rink staved off the threat of a whitewash with a three shot win over Roy Dickson but Services still had 17 shots to spare overall.

Moneyglass claimed three-and-a-half points from their home game against Eaton Park. The first two games resulted in a win for each team with Brendan Marron winning for Moneyglass with Bonar Hill replying for the rugby club.

The second half was a close affair as Sean Kerr’s ‘MG’ rink won by a single shot, while the game between Henry Marron and George Reid had a 9-9 stalemate.

In the other game, All Saints claimed four points from their home game against Round Towers thanks to wins from Nicholas Mitchell, Eugene McReynolds and Sean Haveron. Michael Teer’s rink replied for the Antrim side.
