Gerard leads the way with 46 points

WITH the course in great condition there was high scoring in the latest Winter League round at Silverwood Golf Club.

The overall winner was Gerard Totten with 46 points. Playing off a 23 handicap Gerard had 22 points on the front nine and 24 points on the back nine.

Gerard started his round with a bogey and double bogey before recording his first par to steady the ship at the third while more bogeys followed at the fourth, sixth seventh and eighth. A par at the ninth gave him 22 points.

The back nine was more of the same with single bogeys and pars good enough to win the overall prize on the day.

The winner of the low section, 0-12, was David Mullholland with 43 points. Playing off a 10 handicap David had 24 points on the front nine, with a bonus two at the second and 19 points on the back nine.

Second place was taken by Shane O’Neill, playing off eight, with 42 points. Shane had 20 points on the front nine and 22 points on the back nine.

Third place went to Declan McGeown, also with 42 points, and he had 24 pts on the front nine, with a two at the sixth, and 18 on the homeward stretch with a ding at the 14th knocking him off the top spot.

First in the middle section, 13-18, was Kevin Carson with 43 points playing off a 16 handicap. Kevin had 21 points on the front nine and 22 on the back nine.

Neil Lamont was second in this section with 42 points off his 14 handicap. He had nines of 20 and 22 points.

Third place went to James Scullion with a score of 41 points. The 13 handicapper had two nines of 20 and 21 points.

Gerard Totten was first in the 19-28 section with 46 points off his 23 handicap.

Second went to David Mills with 43 points, playing off a 20 handicap. He had 21 and 22 points respectively.

Third place was taken by Michael Frazer, also with 43 points. Playing off 22 he had nines of 24 and 19 points.

The seniors’ winner was John McConville who scored 42 points off hsi 24 handicap with two nines of 17 and 25 points.

the gross prize was won by Brendan Gorman for the third week in a row. The four handicapper covered both nines in 36 strokes for a level par 72.

In the Winter League there are only four points separating the top three teams.

Summer Goats lead the way with 361 while close behind are Bengal Lancers on 358 and the Rave Plus Boys on 357.
