Bonanza win for Rodney

In Rathmore Golf Club’s Bonanza Day it was Rodney Montgonery who came out on top with a marvellous score of 43 points from his handicap of thirteen.

A birdie at the par five fourth was the base for a front nine that gave him 20 points. The inward nine was even more forthcoming as Rodney dropped just two shots to par with bogeys at the long thirteen and the par four fifteenth before nabbing another birdy with a three at the seventeenth. A par three to finish and he was in with 23 points to boost his tally to 43 and finish two points in front of the rest.

Best of the rest was Derek Williamson on 41 points. Deeker had to wait to the ninth before his birdy three came along and this added up to an opening gambit of 20 points. This gave him the taste for birdies as he added a two at eleven and another two at fifteen before dropping a shot at seventeen. 21 points came out of the back nine keeping a two point gap between Derek and a trio of 39ers.

The top of the three was Ian Kettyle. Ian started with three threes and a four to be three under par after four holes! A couple of shots were retuned to the course but the scratch man finished the nine with 19 points under his belt. Another birdy streak came Ian’s way as he went 4, 3, 3, 4, 2 to go three under for the first five of the back nine. His five at sixteen was the only dropped point for Ian as he was able to sign for another 20 points and 39 overall.

Bradley Hunter matched the 39 total of Ian’s but reversed the nines to be edged down the field in countback. Bradley logged birdies early in the game with a three to start with and a two at the third. He had to wait a while for the next one, another two at the eighteenth, to get 19 back. Russell Napier’s 39 was formed over seventeen holes as he failed to register at the third. The only change to par on the rest of the opening nine was a solitary bogey six at the seventh which meant 20 points out. A two at fifteen helped balance out a double bogey six at seventeen to help Russell to 19 points back.

Two players logged 37 points each; Paul Rohdich and Rory Houston, with Paul taking seventh place on countback. He scored nines of 16 and 21 with a two at eleven and a three at sixteen as highlights while Rory had a level par round for 18 out and 19 back for the final turkey of the day.
