Golf Club crowned First Division champions

Shepherds 4

Golf Club 4

Congratulations to Banbridge Golf Club who clinched their first league title on Tuesday night with a point against their nearest rivals.

Shepherds now have to make sure they at least match the Anglers result this week to take the runners up spot in the McLean Bookmakers First Division.

Chris O'Sullivan started the celebrations in the opening frame and was quickly followed up by Rory Madle. The Golf Club were in terrific form and made it 3-0 through Jim Matthews.

The pressure was now on Johnny Ward as he knew that victory in his frame would secure the title for the Golf Club. He was well up for the challenge and won the championship which is an unbelievable acheivement as this is their first season in the Banbridge and District Pool League.

Understandably the Golf Club took their foot off the gas and Shepherds finished strongly to win the final four frames to tie the match. Home winners were Johnny Neill, Jason Hamill, Stevie Shepherd and Andrew Byrne.

Donacloney Legion 7

Anglers Rest 1

Despite this defeat the Anglers are still in with a shout for a play off with Shepherds for the runners up spot in the division that comes with a nice cash prize.

Donacloney were kicking themselves as their good finish to the season matched their strong start but a very weak mid season cost them dearly. Anglers captain BJ McAnarney took the opening frame but that was as good as it got for the away side as the Legion hit top gear from the second frame through R Draffin.

The home side then took the remaining six frame to record an emphatic victory. Other winners were M Snoddy, C Morton, M Wiltshire, A Clarke, P Tinsley and P Hylands.

Imperial 4

Halfway House 4

As the result suggests this was a tight affair between two mid table teams.

D McAlinden gave the Halfway the early advantage in the first frame but the Imperial reversed that by taking the next two frames through D McCreanor and D Noble.

The game was level after the fourth when A McCarten was successful. The Imperial opened up a two frame lead when I McCreanor and J McCahon took the fifth and sixth frame. The Halfway finished in style when J Mulligan and R Mulligan took the final two frames.

Castle Tavern 6

Market Bar 2

A strong display by the Tavern but it was tight in the first half of the match as the scores were level at the halfway point with Gregor Simpson and Brian McClelland being victorious for the home side and C Beggs and M Jardine replying for the Market.

The Castle then hit the ground running in the second half and won all four frames through James Lavery, Ryan Taylor, Ronnie Weir and Kris McStay.
