With both sides having one win a piece this campaign, this weekend’s Coca/Cola Intermediate Cup tie at the Riverside Stadium is likely to be another great encounter.

Institute boss Paul Kee is expecting another close affair and he feels United’s win in the North West Senior Cup Final will mean they will fancy their chances again.

“There was a lot of emotion that night but credit to Newbuildings they fought back and won the game and it was as tough a game as we have had in a while and its one that will stick in the memory,” stated Kee.

“But there was some unsavoury things that happened that night and I’m hoping that won’t kick in this time.

“We have to concentrate on what we have to do, but I’m hoping we get a strong official, because there’s only one official in the Intermediate Cup.

“Having said all that I just hope it’s a good spectacle, which I’m sure it will be, because Newbuildings will obviously come to us fancying their chances.

“I don’t think anyone needs any motivation because the last game was a final, which we lost on penalties and it was a roller coaster game. It’s also a local derby and I don’t think I’ll need to say too much, but to be honest I will be treating it as just another game.

“I’m not going to be banging the drum at our end, my preparation all week at training won’t change and we’ll go out and try to win the game.”

’Stute should welcome back striker Stephen Parkhouse after he missed last weekend’s game.

As for his opposite number Peter Allen he is really looking forward to the tie, and his side go into the tie off the back of a friendly win over Finn Harps, on Sunday.

“I went to ’Stute’s game at Crumlin on Saturday and in all honesty we wanted them to win, because the players like to play in a big stadium like the Riverside Stadium. It’s a fantastic place to play and hopefully that will inspire my boys,” he admitted.

“The boys are hungry to try and get to that level and although we are doing well in the Intermediate League, ’Stute are a Championship One side and they have a massive pool of players and they have a budget for players, while we are all amateur.

“But in saying that it’s always something that all the players want to aspire to by playing against the best and that’s the thinking that drives us on,” the United manager stated.

Allen also concedes that it’s going to be a bit crazy being in the opposite dug-out from the ’Stute boss.

Kee started the Newbuildings man off in his coaching career, something which the United boss hasn’t forgotten about.

“It will be a bit surreal to be honest, because Paul has done a lot for me,” he insisted.

“In the last five years Paul has been great to me, he gave me a chance and I owe him a lot of thanks for what he has done for me, but now we are in the opposite side of the dug-outs and it will be a bit strange.”
