Stewart, Hynds and Moore on target in win

Two wins in two weeks - it seems like Gary Taylor’s Portstewart have finally found their feet.

The seasiders had a tough start to the season, but a derby win over Glebe last week seems to have injected some confidence into the team. This continued on Saturday with a fine 3-0 win over Moyola Park.

Portstewart started the tie well and caused the Moyola defence all sorts of problems.

Johnny Stewart opened the scoring before the home side were awarded a penalty when Chris Hanson was brought down in the box, Matt Hynds stepped up to the spot and made no mistake to make it 2-0 at the break, his first goal for the Club.

The second half was much the same as the first, with the Ports on top. Matt Hynds and Lee Forgrave made some good attacking runs, and so too did Stuart Moore who was rewarded for his efforts when he grabbed his side’s third with a fine volley from outside the box.

The Portstewart boss was delighted with the win. He hopes his side can continue the run when they travel to bottom of the table side Banbridge Town on Saturday.

“We are starting to play like we believed we could, and to get three goals is great, the boys are now playing with a bit of confidence,” said Taylor.

Taylor praised Johnny Stewart who grabbed his first of the season and new signing, mid-fielder Matt Hynds.

“Matt is starting to get his match fitness back, I was delighted for him to step up and score from the spot. He’s playing in the middle with Lee [Forgrave] and they have a got a good partnership going. Matt is a natural leader, he does a lot of talking in there, which is a good thing. Craig Moore also got his name on the scoresheet, he’s a natural striker playing out of position. His volley was superb, it just capped off a good all round performance,” said the delighted manager.

Portstewart travel to Banbridge Town this Saturday, and Taylor is hoping for more of the same from his boys.

“It’s a tight league, and everyone is capable of beating each other. We were sitting rock bottom a few weeks back, but a few results can change that. They have tightened things up at the back and have kept two clean sheets in the last two weeks, so it will be difficult.”
