Stars set to shine for Victor

A star-studded line-up, which will include former Manchester United and England striker Teddy Sheringham, will be in Coleraine this Friday night for a Testimonial Match to honour Bannside legend Victor Hunter.

Among the other big names secured for the glamour friendly match are Barry Hunter, Stephen Lomas, Iain Dowie, Keith Gillespie and Michael Hughes.

There will also be a host of Bannsiders legends from yesteryear, including Felix Healy, Ricky Wade, Tony O’Doherty and Michael Guy.

The two teams will be managed by Liam Beckett and Iam McFaul respectively and there will be a number of former Irish League players lining up to honour Victor.

The match - which will be 35 minutes each way - kicks off at 7.45pm at Coleraine Showgrounds and admission is £5. The referee is Frankie Hiles.

Spectators are encouraged to buy a special souvenir programme, costing £2. Radio Ulster’s Alan Simpson will compere what’s sure to be a superb evening of fun and craic.

Meanwhile, the board of Coleraine FC has wished Victor well for his big night.

A spokesperson for the club said: “We recognise the contribution Victor made to Coleraine Football Club over the years both as a player and a coach.

“Not only has he produced many successful teams, but he has also helped bring so many players through to play in the first team.

“Chairman Colin McKendry would like Victor to know he is always welcome at Coleraine Showgrounds and hopes that he will have a future role to play within the club.

“The club is glad to be able to supply its facilities to the organisers and hopes they have a successful night.”
