Roesiders win thriller

WATERSIDE men Ardmore certainly feel they did more than enough to at least claim a share of the spoils at Limavady Rugby Club, on Saturday

Ardmore dominated the first half and created a host of chances, however it was the home side that showed them how to finish to secure 3-2 win, which was their first victory of the season.

The Roe men took the lead on 30 minutes when a long ball fell perfectly for Simon Moore to race clear of the Ardmore defence before calmly side footing past Calvin McGowan.

Despite the set-back Ardmore responded well and created a host of opportunities but some bad finishing let them down.

Early in the second half the visitors were awarded a penalty when Joe Creggan was upended in the box and James Cruckshank made no mistake with the resulting spot-kick from 12 yards, sending the keeper the wrong way.

Minutes later Ardmore had a glorious chance to take the lead when Jordan Gormley took too much time inside the six yard box and his effort was cleared off the line.

Limavady regained the lead on the hour mark when a quick counter attack down the right ended with Fergal Hartin firing home at the back post.

Ardmore levelled for a second time when this time Gormley redeemed himself, following a goal mouth scramble the striker was alert to turn home the loose ball.

Both sides pushed forward trying to get that crucial winner and it was the home side who netted a winner in the closing stages following some poor marking by Ardmore.

A corner to the back post on 88 minutes could have found three unmarked players, however Nathan Hartin was the man to powerfully head home from close range.

Despite conceding so late on, the visitors pushed forward in search of their third equaliser, but in truth Limavady stood firm in defence and held on for the three points.
