Reserves claim bragging rights

DESERTMARTIN were the visitors to the Beechway as both sides returned to action following a considerable spell without football. Add in the factor that this was a local derby, this tie was always going to hotly contested.

Killymoon handed debuts to Marc Harkness and Gerry Moore who have both signed in the transfer window. It was a cagey start by both sides as chances were limited.

Both rearguards were defending resolutely as neither attack could muster any worthwhile opportunities. However, the major talking point of the first half was when Desertmartin saw an effort ruled out for offside.

The second half started in a lively fashion as the away side saw a free kick narrowly go over. The home side had been forced into a reshuffled as veteran Kyle Smith was replaced by Thom.

Killymoon were really pushing for the opening goal and they were denied by a superb reflex save from the Desertmartin keeper.

Debutant Marc Harkness was making a big impact in the tie as he made a number of darting runs into the area. It was Harkness that grabbed the opening goal as he rifled home after a scramble in the box.

The goal seemed dishearten the away side and Redford soon sealed the tie when he pounced onto a long punt up the field, he calmly chipped the keeper from twenty yards out to seal an impressive 2-0 win for the home side.
