Rec had already snapped up Jim Thompson from Newington Rangers and other notable ‘old boys’ returning to the fold are Barn duo, striker John Mathers and midfielder Rob Armstrong, along with Andrew Benson (Castle Star) and Dean Johnstone (Newington) and Neil Lammey (Islandmagee).

Kilroot have also signed Aaron Bell, even if his appearances might be curtailed by work commitments, though midfield enforcer Darren McKinty hopes to available more regularly for the remainder of the season.

As Rec supremo Mervyn Smith said: “There’s a buzz back about the club, and I think it will just take one good win for things to really take off again!”

Saturday’s fixture away to Groomsport at the Meadows was postponed.

Kilroot have 13 games to tunnel their way to safety. However, it won’t be easy this Saturday when promotion-chasing Donard Hospital are the visitors to Castleview Road.
