Rangers put up brave fight against title contenders

Grange Rangers put on a good show at Division 2A title contenders Suffolk but an injury-time home goal secured a narrow 2-0 Clarence Cup win for the hosts.

Manager Stephen King was delighted with his side’s performance, and felt the scoreline flattered the Belfast team.

Suffolk opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a free-kick from outside the box which flew into the roof of the net before keeper Mark Deegan had time to blink.

Rangers had scoring chances but they were spurned by Matti King, Chris Bell, Tiago Leite and Matt Cooper before being hit by a late counter-attack.

“This was a very encouraging performance, and if the lads can repeat this form consistently in the second half of the season, they will be serious promotion candidates.”

Next match: Kelvin OB (h), Jan 9, Cochrane Corry Cup, round two.
