Ports suffer derby defeat

Peter Kennoway grabbed two second half goals to seal the win for the Ballymoney men, in what was their second win over Portstewart this season.

The first half was an even affair with both sides cancelling each other out.

An injury to midfielder Ian Todd in the second half seemed to hamper Portstewart who lost their shape giving Glebe time and space on the ball causing problems for the Portstewart defence.

Kennoway grabbed two goals from two set pieces, to end the misery for Gary Taylor’s side.

Speaking to Times Sport on Monday, Taylor wasn’t too down beat about the defeat.

“I think we just started to tire in the second half and Glebe took advantage of this.

“We lost Ian Todd in the second half, but before this I felt we could maybe get a point from the game.”

Portstewart have four matches left this season and they are all away ties.

They travel to play PSNI this Saturday.

“We will have Sam Boylan back for this game and hopefully Ian Todd will be fit again,” said Taylor.

The Portstewart manager admitted that he’s already thinking ahead for next season.

“We need a leader.

“We have some good young players - Johnny Gawn, Dean Murray and Danny Austin, but we just need a few experienced players in to balance things out.

“I believe that if we find that balance we’ll be a better side.

“We’re just too quiet at times, but hopefully we can bring in a few players ahead of the start of the new season,” added Taylor.
