NW Football: McGee’s men start season with Summer Cup glory

The new North West Junior Football season gets underway on Saturday. Ardmore have already taken the first piece of silverware after defeating BBOB in the Summer Cup Final, at Wilton Park last Friday night.

An own goal and a super Darren Crossan chip ensured Damien McGee’s side picked up the first piece of silverware of the 2015/16 season.

Ardmore - Manager Damien McGee has retained most of last season’s squad and also added ex-Institute and Limavady United defender Ryan Brown, players expected to have a big influence in their side are Dee McGee, Calvin McCallion and Eddie McIntyre.

Prediction: First

BBOB - The Waterside men have lost top marksman Joe McCready who has joined Limavady United, however they have brought in quality in Alan Duddy, Stuart Moore and Ciaran McDermott. Players to look out for are Eamonn Donnelly, Nicky Cooke and Gary Collett.

Prediction: Second

Claudy Rovers - Rovers have changed their manager however they still have quality in players like James Boyd and Marty Donaghy.

Prediction: Third

Foyle Wanderers - Last season’s champions will again look to defend their title, they have brought in Dillan Rutherford from Caw, however they have lost talented left winger Steve Dougherty who has joined Newbuildings, players to look out for are Robbie Godfrey, David Scanlon and Stevie White.

Prediction: Fourth

Lincoln Courts - The Waterside mne have been busy in the close season bringing in Gary Harris with the return of Gary King, Matty Smith and Steven Mooney will be big players for them.

Prediction: Fifth

Tullyally - They have had a decent season last time out they have lost Ciaran McDermott to Bbob but have John Wray returning, Andy Cooke, Fred McFaul and Dean O’Neill are players to watch out for.

Prediction: Sixth

Greysteel - Have retained all of last season’s squad with the ever green Joe Gray leading by example. The former Limavady United, Coleraine and Institute man will have to be at his best to help their campaign.

Prediction: Seventh

Drummond - Not sure what players they have retained so they may struggle after a decent campaign last season.

Prediction: Eighth
