McLaughlin pushingfor a starting place

INSTITUTE manager Paul Kee concedes he may make a few changes for their North West Senior Cup tie, against Tobermore United, on Friday night (KO 8pm).

The match, which takes place at Drumahoe, could see Colm McLaughlin and Matthew Crossan make their debuts, but Michael McCrudden is again likely to miss out with a knee problem, but he may be amongst the substitutes.

“I’ll probably change things up for the Tobermore game,” admitted Kee.

“We signed Mattie Crossan and we should have him available for selection, Colm McLaughlin should also be freed and we have got the likes of Sean Reilly, probably Corey Hegarty and another number of other players who might get a run out.

“We probably won’t chance McCrudden, although he’s responding well to treatment, we are hoping he’s going to be alright for the Limavady United match, but again we’ll have to wait and see.

“However if he felt OK we might put him on the bench on Friday night, but it’s highly, highly unlikely, as it wouldn’t be worth risking him.”

The ’Stute gaffer is only too well aware that he needs to get players much needed match time and while he’ll want to win, getting his players up to the standard he has set is more important as league games will be coming thick and fast.

“We need to get boys game time, so that they can get an opportunity to show us what they can do and get a bit more understanding of the squad,” he added.

“With the transfer window closing next week I need to see where we are at in terms of certain positions. The boys are training quite hard and doing well in training and in fairness to young (Colm) McLaughlin he has looked good in the practice matches which we have had.

“In the match against Carndonagh last week, which was mostly our development squad, we won 2-0 and it was a comfortable victory in fairness, but he was very good and I have to give him his due, so I look forward to seeing the likes of him and there’s a good likelihood that he’ll start on Friday night.”

Kee will again be warning his players that United, who in recent seasons have caused problems for the Waterside men, will be up for the game from the off and the players will have to be of a similar mind set if they want to progress.

“It’s a Friday night match, the pitch is in decent enough order and teams will come and make a good effort,” he said.

“But you have to beat what is in front of you and that’s what we did on Monday night, but at the end of the day, you are going in a certain direction and you want certain principals and standards to be set and we are getting there, but I would like to be there faster.

“You want to play with a certain intensity, drive and understanding and that’s what we are working towards and I think the team is developing that, but the players have to understand that there’s more needed all the time.”
