Heights march into next round of Irish Junior

A sleek performance by the Heights saw them through to the next round of the Irish Junior Cup on Saturday.

The Coleraine lads entertained Enniskillen Rangers from the Fermanagh league.

As with the previous round, the local team prepared well for this game. Missing Bones and Wall from last week, Olphert had to reshuffle and went with Moffett in goals.

Graham, Dorrian, White, Law were strong at the back; McGonigle, Stewart, Wilson, Hollinger always looked like a threat in midfield; and an attacking duo of Gaile and McConnell.

The game started cagey with both teams trying to see where each other’s weaknesses lay. Enniskillen had a few good chances to take the lead, but the in-form Moffett kept out any threat. In the 25th minute with the ball out left, Law swung in a cross only to see it loop in at the back post to the home sides delight.

With a few tasty challenges flying in the game was very entertaining. The second half saw the visitors push hard for an equaliser which they thought they had got only for it to be ritely ruled out for offside.

With the Heights counter attacking, both had chances and when Wilson was sent off for a second caution the pressure was on the home team but excellent defending and impact subs McGahon, Platt and Edgar saw the lads into the next round with another excellent result.
