Ballymacash win derby

Ballymacash Rangers maintained their unbeaten start in 2014 with a comfortable 3-0 victory over their neighbours Lower Maze at Rushmore Park, last Saturday.

In wet and windy conditions, the home side started off much the better side and opened the scoring after 10 minutes when Stuarty Clarke fired in a spectacular long range effort.

The 2nd and 3rd goals followed soon after as Rangers grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, seeing their opponents were there for the taking. First full-back Paul Hull sent a great free-kick into the penalty box which eluded everyone and ended in the net, closely followed by Stuarty Orr’s fine individual goal, Orr rounding the keeper after a great through ball by James Guiney, making the scoreline 3-0 to the home side with only 25 minutes played.

Rangers again took hold of proceedings as the second half began. However, fair play to the Maze players as they battled to try to stay in the game. On the rare occasion the away team did attack they were thwarted immediately by the impressive Rangers backline. Rangers will hope to continue their fine form for the rest of their first season back in the top flight of Mid-Ulster Intermediate League, in which a top 4 finish could be possible, which would be a fantastic achievement.
