Excellent wins for Dalriada

Dalriada got straight into the match against Larne. Dalriada playing at home gave them the security as they knew what to expect from the pitch. They were able to tie together some intricate passes along the right hand side of the pitch winning various frees.

Dalriada had possession of the ball the majority of the pitch. Dalriada’s defensive four were able to hold an excellent formation, causing difficulties for the Larne attackers to enter the circle.

Although, Larne had a chance to score but excellent save from the goalie Laura Henry was able to save and clear the ball into space. Eva Carson, sending a solid pass to Sara Jamison who was then able to defeat a defender then released the ball to Laura Finnerty, who spotted Olivia Mullan who was open. Olivia was able to collect the ball and beat two of Larne’s defenders and entered the circle with a shot on goal.

1-0 to Dalriada the momentum was high, within a few moments of the restart, they had possession of the ball. There was only a few minutes left until the half was over, where Dalriada were faced with losing two players due to other commitments. Dalriada persevered and were able to keep calm and play accurate passes. Larne came back with a vengeance and were determined to score a goal, this was stopped as Dalriada’s defenders tackles cleared the ball and it was played to the forwards.

With the score still showing a 1-0 to Dalriada made Larne determined to even out the play.  Approaching the last minute Dalriada were in Larne’s half and the determination from Olivia Mullan, Laura Finnerty and Megan Barr itching to score another goal was ended by the final whistle. This resulted in the final score being 1-0 to Dalriada.

Dalriada’s 2ndXI faced Strabane Academy at home in the plate competition and came away with an excellent 4-1 win. The home side started slowly and conceded a goal early in the first half. Dalriada came back before half time to make the score 1-1. In the second half Dalriada came back much stronger and had most of the possession and they were rewarded for this by scoring 3 more goals making the final score 4-1. The goal scorers were Megan McBurney (2), Jill Leslie and Bekah Kennedy.
