Crowds visit home town of bike legends in large numbers

Ballymoney councillor Bill Kennedy said: “Ballymoney is synonymous with the sport of motorcycle road racing. Each year many thousands make their way to the town to the tranquil setting of the memorial gardens to read about and reflect on the achievements of the town’s two greatly admired and acclaimed road racing legends.

“The gardens overlook Joey’s Bar, which is also a ‘must stop’ for many, as are other clubs and pubs offering musicial and other events for visitors to the international biking event.

“The excitement of motorcycle road racing is celebrated at Ballymoney Museum in a display of leathers, helmets, trophies, bikes and memorabilia from famous riders past and present. The exhibition tells the story from its beginnings in the early twentieth century and focuses on the success of our local riders.

“This year’s exhibition features ‘Ulster’s TT Heroes.’ This annual motorcycle exhibition attract huge numbers of visitors every year and the Tourist Information Centre has reported ‘record numbers’ of visitors to the Museum,” said Cllr Kennedy.

The exhibition runs to 24th August, 9 am – 5 pm daily (4.30 p.m. on Fridays). Admission is free.

Ballymoney is a ‘mecca’ for motorbike fans in the week running up to the NW200.
