Coleraine Under-11's win seven-goal thriller

COLERAINE Academy Under-11's picked another three points as they edged out Maiden City in a seven-goal thriller.

Ben White put Coleraine in front with a great chip after Rhys Stirling's corner wasn't properly cleared.

Maiden City came back into the game when the Academy failed to clear the ball and after scrappy play on the line, the Maiden City boys tapped the ball in.

Scott Weir quickly responded to the equaliser as he collected the ball, turned the defender and fired the ball into the top corner to leave the score 2-1 to Coleraine at half-time.

Unfortunately, after the break, Maiden City scored two quick goals but Coleraine upped the pressure again.

Kevin O’Kane came on and made an instant impact when he collected the ball, ran straight through the City defence and slipped the ball past the keeper to bring Coleraine back into the game.

The winner then came from Rhys Stirling. After great battling from Oscar Moffitt-Clarke, Rhys collected the ball and stuck it in the top corner with his left foot to complete another great performance by the boys.

Man of the Match: Josh Dunn.

The match against Berties was a bit one sided, the passing and moving was fantastic.

The visitors went in front with six minutes on the clock. Coleraine then rallied after going behind with Jason McQuilken shooting just wide followed by Kain Arthur bringing a save from the Institute keeper.

Into the second half and substitute Johnny Mairs levelled things up as he fired in an unstoppable shot.

Coleraine were pushing for the winner but Stute were looking dangerous on the break and only a great block on the line by Dan Mairs prevented the visitors from retaking the lead.

Unfortunately Institute did grab a second as the Bannsiders defence failed to clear their lines.

Coleraine pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages and had the visitors penned back in their box, but they just couldn't find a way through. Adam Black went closest as his shot came back off the post.

U12's

Coleraine Under-12 Community team tasted defeat for the first time on Saturday as they went down 1-0 against Dungiven.

The visitors started off the stronger of the two sides and had Coleraine pegged back in their own half.

The Bannsiders could have been in front in the first half as twice Connor Lundy was sent clear on goal, but unfortunately the young striker pulled his shot wide of the goal on both occasions.

Coleraine fell behind in rather unfortunate circumstances as a cross from the left found its way in at the near post.

Jack McKinney spurned a great chance to level things up just before the break but he too failed to hit the target.

With the wind at their backs Coleraine piled the pressure on Dungiven in the second half and they looked to have equalised but the referee ruled the whole of the ball had not crossed the line.

The Coleraine lads can be proud of their efforts though against a more physical side.

In the swirling wind at Mallusk the Under-13 Academy team took on Warrenpoint.

The Bannsiders were still looking for their first win in the National League so they adopted a more defensive approach restricting their opponents to long range efforts.

Coleraine were proving a threat on the break and Michael Ireland went close before Curtis Rodgers put them in front with a great individual effort on 17 minutes.

Rodgers added a second after the break beating two men before firing in to the top corner. Warrenpoint pulled a goal back with four minutes to go but Coleraine saw out the game to seal a deserved win.

Meanwhile, the Under-13 Community team made it three wins in a row beating Moyola 8-2 away from home with goals from Jamie Nolan (2), Josh Waddell (2), Carl Platt (2), Adam Dunlop and an own goal.
