Ballymena Bowling Club round-up: Seniors suffer Irish Cup exit

BALLYMENA Seniors travelled to Whitehead last Saturday in the second round of the Irish Senior Cup.

Whitehead are one of the top NIBA teams and the game was given an added dimension with the fact that Marty McHugh was returning to the club where he has had so much success in recent times.

Unfortunately one of the Ballymena rinks had a nightmare of a game losing by 28 shots and even though the other 3 rinks did their best to carry the game it was not to be as the Seniors went down by 10 shots.

There were no such problems for Ballymena’s Junior side, however, as they took on Comber in the Irish Junior Cup and on a lovely hot Saturday afternoon, the Juniors were never in any trouble as they negotiated their way in to the third round of the Irish Junior Cup with a comfortable 107-60 victory.

Elsewhere, table-topping Ballymena Senior Park travelled to Shorts last Saturday, and in a very close match they claimed 5.5 points to make it six consecutive league wins in the NIPGL Senior League Division 3.

After losing their first two games of the season, Ballymena ladies have finally rediscovered some of their form of 2011. Londonderry were the visitors last Wednesday and the Braid team made it three wins out of three when they claimed 5 of the 7 points on offer.
