Wrongly paid more than £3,000 in benefits

Conor Campbell (28), Ann Street, Lurgan, admitted charges of making a false declaration that he was not working to obtain Jobseekers Allowance and failing to notify of a change of circumstances.

The court heard that during dates in 2014 and 2015 he was claiming benefits while working for two separate employers.

He received an over payment of £3215.52.

Campbell had now set up a standing order of £40 a month to repay the amount.

The case had been adjourned from a previous court so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.

A barrister representing the defendant said he had debts at the time and had financial commitments to young children.

District Judge, Mr Peter King, said Campbell did not have an exemplary record with 30 previous convictions, a number of which involved dishonesty matters.

He imposed 175 hours community service.
