Video: Firefighters tackle blaze at Cookstown residence

Two teams of fire fighters got to work tackling a blaze that took hold in a garage at a Cookstown home just this afternoon.

An eyewitness at the scene told the Mid Ulster Mail, he saw the saw the smoke from him place of work and quickly alerted emergency services.

It appeared that the fire was confined to the double garage of the family home, but a car in the driveway also suffered some damage.

Firefighters could be seen using foam to put out flames that had engulfed the garage, while billows of smoke could be seen for miles around.

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) received a call at 2.35pm to a report of a garage well alight at the Ardcumber Road area of Cookstown this afternoon (Thursday 11 February).

“One Fire Appliance from Cookstown Fire Station and one Fire Appliance from Dungannon Fire Station were deployed to the scene.

“Firefighters using a CAF jet, one Main jet and one hosereel jet dealt with a fire at a detached garage in the area.

“Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service finished at the scene at 3.41pm and the fire is being treated as accidental.”
