Video: Boris Johnston has a go at smashing bomb proof glass in Magherafelt

London Mayor Boris Johnston tried his hand at smashing bomb proof glass during a visit to Magherafelt-based Windell Group (Henry Bros) today.

Despite advice not to from an aide, Mr Johnston grabbed hold of a hammer and battered the glass which will be used in the New Scotland Yard in London.

The Mayor, who was accompanied by Secretary of State Theresa Villiers, told the media pack following him that he didn’t want to shower them with glass.

Earlier, Mr Johnston had paid a visit to Wrightbus in Ballymena.

He was shown around the Magherafelt firm’s premises on the Moneymore Road and cut a cake to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

Windell has undertaken a number of prestigious projects in the London area, including BBC House, Emirates Cable Cars, Palace of Westminster, Kings Cross and Farringdon rail stations.
