To avail of the funding the project must be completed by September 2014, and parents originally reacted angrily when it was first revealed that the play park would be closed for 5-6 weeks over the summer holidays.

A Council spokesperson said: “Cookstown District Council are committed to providing excellent facilities for children and the new and extended play park will support physical and emotional wellbeing, provide opportunities for positive social interaction, learning, health and independence.
