MoD on large‘sea monsters’

THE Ministry of Defence (MoD) has refused to be drawn on whether there are any ‘abnormally large, or dangerous sea monsters’ hundreds of metres under the sea that haven’t been revealed to the public but has invited anyone who spots unusual mammals in Lough Foyle or beyond to report the sightings.

Sebastian Darby, who describes himself as a marine biology, asked the MoD, following “the recent discovery of a ‘supergiant crustacean’ reaching a staggering 34 centimetres in length and found seven kilometres under the ocean” was it aware of “any abnormally large or dangerous sea monsters in the deep sea?”

A spokesperson for the MoD did not say whether it had any knowledge of sea monsters but invited members of the public to report large mammal sightings via Additional Military Layers (AML), a NATO-wide initiative, co-ordinated by the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO).

Responding to Mr Darby a spokesperson stated: “Thank you for your enquiry concerning sea monsters, which has been considered to be a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act.

“The MoD invites people to report sightings of marine mammals (which could include unusual sightings), via the Marine Mammal Reporting form on the UKHO web site.”
