Lifeboat comes to aid of fishing boat

The 17ft vessel called Pioneer alerted Belfast Coastguard that they had engine failure close to Carrick-a-Rede, between Ballintoy and Ballycastle.

The members on board managed to secure themselves with an anchor until the assistance of Portrush all weather Lifeboat arrived.

The Lifeboat managed rescue the vessel which was close to the rocks, and took them into Ballintoy Harbour where they were met by Ballycastle Coastguard and the boat was recovered onto the trailer.

Those on board the boat were not injured and the incident ended safely at Ballintoy Harbour.

“The deployment of the Y boat to complete the tow is exactly what our crew are trained to do as the all-weather lifeboat could not have manoeuvred into the small harbour’
