Thank you, Cookstown High, says Chief Executive of Action MS

Action MS CEO, Ann Walker, visited the school recently for a special awards presentation to thank the pupils for their tremendous efforts on behalf of people with multiple sclerosis.

Pupils took part in a Walk for MS at Drum Manor For4est Park during the summer term and raised a fantastic total of £1,920.55 in aid of Action MS, Northern Ireland’s Multiple Sclerosis Charity. Mrs Walker said: “Thanks to the generosity and support of schools like Cookstown High School, the Walks for MS are at the core of Action MS support services. Action MS supports people living with multiple sclerosis, their families and carers in Northern Ireland. Cookstown High School really enjoyed their morning’s walk and we are very grateful for their generous support.”

STEM AWARENESS

Parents and children from Mid Ulster Primary schools recently attended a series of STEM workshops in Cookstown Leisure Centre with the gaol of inspiring young minds through creative use of Engineering and Technology.

The pupils had the opportunity to write their own computer code to control robots that raced each other through along a complex track. 

They were also able to design and manufacture rockets which were launch several hundred feet into the air using compress air. 

They learned of the importance of working as team to construct mega structures.

The pupils and parents involved all felt these to be very valuable workshops that inspired their children to think more creatively.

The workshops were organised by Mr Robert Johnston, Head of ICT in Cookstown High School, and were made possible through the sponsorship of Karro Foods Cookstown and the Institute of Science.
