Successful local businessman

The passing of Mr. Samuel Shepherd took place on 30th January 2016 at home with his family at '˜Wind Creek' Ringsend Road, Banbridge.

Sam as he was affectionately known was the dearly loved husband of Hilda and father of Marina, Stephen and Alan, daughter-in-law Doreen, grandchildren Matthew, Christopher, Jessica and Melissa and great grandchild Oswin.

Sam was a very successful and colourful 
local businessman.

A great character known by all locally he had a generous spirit and throughout his life cared for everyone, his family often tells stories of how much he loved animals and brought home all sorts of waifs and strays.

Sam lost his own father at the tender age of 14.

He married Hilda, formerly Elliott, at 24.

He was an extremely hard working caring parent, when his family was happy he 
was happy.

Successful in business he owned the Four Bears in Church Square and ran a very successful licensed business.

He then owned Shepherds Bar and Lounge in 
Newry Street.

He was also keen on selling cars and very successful in property.

He was a regular attender at Church until his health prevented him.

The funeral took place on Tuesday 2nd February at Loughbrickland Presbyterian Church when the Rev. Andrew Watson paid a fitting tribute at the home, church and graveside.

The hymns ‘Safe in the arms of Jesus’ and ‘What a friend we have in Jesus’ were sung.

Mr. Tom Haire presided at the organ.

The interment took place after the service in Banbridge New Cemetery.

Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to William Bell and Co. Funeral Directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, BT32 3LR for Chest Heart and Stroke.

William Bell and Co. had charge of the funeral 
arrangements.
