Stewartstown man who was driving with '˜outrageous' level of drink taken crashed into traffic island

Dmitrijus Indrisiunas, 42, from Ballymaguire Road, crashed into a traffic island at Gortgonis Road in Coalisland while heavily intoxicated on a date unknown between November 23 and 26 2014.

Mr Craig Patton, defending, told the court that his client was in difficulties given his work and stringent bail conditions for other matters.

However, he said that his client’s attitude towards meetings with probation services meant that the court’s hands were tied with their disposal.

“You were already dealing with your third drink driving conviction,” District Judge John Meehan told East Tyrone Magistrate’s Court on Wednedsay past.

“You have done all you could to make sure that the case has gone all the way.

“You have denied the truth all the way.

“This was an outrageous level of drunkeness on the road ... and its consequence was a crash.

“You came very close to causing very serious injury to yourself and other road users.

“You have shown little concern for offences of this gravity,” he described.

Judge Meehan then handed down a three month prison sentence which he suspended for two years. He further imposed a four year driving ban.
