Spirit of Volunteering Awards held
The ceremony was hosted by TV broadcaster Claire McCollum with the Lord Lieutenant for Co Antrim, Mrs Joan Christie OBE in attendance at the event.
Speaking at the awards ceremony the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Noreen McClelland said: “I am extremely impressed by the sheer scale and variety of the volunteering activity undertaken in Antrim and Newtownabbey. These volunteers selflessly dedicate their time and abilities to helping others and I am pleased that the council and its partners have recognised their efforts through these awards.”

Hide AdThe recipients of the 2016 Antrim and Newtownabbey Spirit of Volunteering Awards were: Newcomer Award: Neil Carmichael, Newtownabbey Kickers; Team Spirit Award: Breakaway Blues, Rathcoole; Personal Achievement Award: Ergnat McLaughlin, Tidy Randalstown; Community Impact Award: Heather Murray, Citizens Advice Antrim and Newtownabbey; Mayor’s Award: Brenda Stephenson and May Wilson, The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association; Lord-Lieutenant’s Award: Anne Conner, The Royal British Legion and Lifetime Contribution to Volunteering: Gerry Lynch, Tidy Randalstown.
