Poppy Appeal is quids in for Cookstown!

Organised by Cookstown Royal British Legion, over the years the annual appeal has raised considerable amounts for this worthy cause but in the tough economic times being experienced at present the sum accumulated this year is a testament to the hard work of the collecting teams and the generosity of the businesses and individuals in the area.

Branch Chairman and Poppy Appeal co-ordinator Trevor Carson has paid tribute to everyone involved and expressed appreciation to the people of Cookstown and the surrounding areas for their continued support.

The 2012/13 appeal will be formally launched in October and Mr Carson is looking forward to another successful collection.

He has requested that all donations be sent to him at the Royal British Legion, Burn Road, Cookstown, BT80 8DN.

Poppy products may be purchased and wreaths etc collected from the Burn Road premises during opening hours.

New collectors are always welcome and anyone wishing to assist in any way should contact Trevor at the RBL either in person or on telephone number 028 8676 2524.

The Cookstown RBL branch recorded another success recently when the clay pigeon shooting team retained the Fred Moody Perpetual Shield for another year in a closely fought event held at Drumcraw Clay Shooting Grounds, Cookstown.

The event saw teams of five competitors from Dungannon and Aughnacloy and two teams from Cookstown shoot 40 targets each with Cookstown “A” team winning the main event.

The pool trap competition was won by Davy Jordan also from Cookstown.

The event was sponsored by Kernans Milling and Drumcraw Club with all proceeds being donated to the Poppy Appeal. A meal and presentation of trophies followed in the RBL premises at which Branch Chairman, Trevor Carson thanked the sponsors and congratulated all competitors.
