Disappointment over mental health unit

Councillor Stephen Martin has expressed his concern following the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust’s decision on the siting of the new acute in-patient mental health facility.

It has been recommended it should be located adjacent to the Ulster Hospital rather than Lagan Valley Hospital where it was originally envisaged.

Councillor Martin said: “Lisburn has yet again lost out when it comes to health provision especially when you consider there is absolutely an identifiable need for the type of service that the new facility will cater for. I will be liaising regularly with the Trust to see how these plans are progressing for the fear would be that someone living in Lisburn is going to be left at a serious disadvantage when needing to access mental health services.”
