PICTURE GALLERY: Ballyweaney GB celebrate 50 years

On Friday 16th April the Current GB company were joined by past members, family and friends to celebrate 50 years of Girls' Brigade in Ballyweaney.

Their special guests were Mrs Margaret Cromey (minister's wife when the company was founded in Oct 59) and the first two officers of the company Mrs Elsie Kerr(nee Blair) and Mrs Betty McIlroy (nee Agnew).

An enjoyable night was had by all and the past members put on a good display of marching and singing, in addition to the current company doing several items.

At the end of the evening the current members all received a silver bracelet to commemorate the occasion.

Members were delighted to have six girls who received their silver Duke of Edinburgh Award, and 2 girls who received their Brigader Brooches. For one member Kirsty Morrison, it was a triple night of celebration for her as she received her Queen's Award, which is the highest award in Girls' Brigade, in addition to her DOE and Brigader Brooch.

For Ballyweaney, Kirsty is the first girl to do this award, and we are very proud of her, and it was very fitting on such a special occassion to mark it in this way.(absent from photographs is Kirsty Kirker who got her Brigader Brooch and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award but was unable to be present of Friday night.)

On the Saturday night 78 past and present members met together for a reunion dinner in the Ross Park and we had yet another great night, and we were delighted to have past members from as far away as Vancouver and England with us on both occasions.
