Sea scouts historian seeking help with yacht’s Larne visit

Peter Raymond would like to pinpoint when between 1951 and 1955 the ‘Gladwyena’ called into the town.

Peter explained: “She was manned by a troop of sea scouts from Newcastle upon Tyne called the 1st Tyne Sea Scouts.

“I am currently compiling data to help write a history of the troop for the benefit of current members and ‘old hands’ some of whom are still alive. Since the troop was started in 1913, it is now over 100 years old and we hope to attract enough interest to keep it going.

“Unfortunately, memories are somewhat hazy and there is disagreement as to when Larne was visited. It would have occurred some time in August of the

years mentioned above, probably in the last half of the month. Any help will be appreciated and mentioned in the history.”
