Reduced speed limit outside schools welcomed

The announcement by Minister Nichola Mallon that the Department for Infrastructure is set to pilot 20mph speed limit schemes outside schools as part of its capital expenditure programme has been welcomed.

SDLP Glengormley representative, Cllr Noreen McClelland reacted positively to the move.

Cllr McClelland said: “This pilot will be good news to the ears of staff, parents and carers, especially those who teach at or whose children attend local schools which are located on busy arterial routes.

“The public health and safety of our local communities, especially our children and young people, should be at the centre of our focus as we emerge from this public health crisis. Pupil safety is paramount when going to or from school and no better way to ensure this than by putting an end to speeding traffic outside of school gates.”
