Peace and reconciliation theme for Carrick Rotary

A Carrickfergus audience has gained an insight to the peace and reconciliation work of the Corrymeela Community.

Craig Cameron, a founder member of the centre, was guest speaker at a meeting of Carrickfergus Rotary Club.

Corrymeela is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and Craig gave a detailed presentation on the history of its development from its foundation by Ray Davey and a group of friends in 1965 to the present day.

He described its growth from small beginnings with a handful of volunteers to now when it employs 40 full-time staff, 20 year-long volunteers and hundreds of short term volunteers.

Community membership stands at 150 with a further 50 associate members and thousands of friends throughout the world.

Craig also outlined the wide range of Corrymeela programmes delivered on site and throughout the community at home and further afield.

Rotarian Jim Dunlop thanked him for his excellent presentation and his insight into the work of the Corrymeela Community.
