‘Overwhelmed’ by Blessing Bags

BIG-HEARTED Ballymoney people have donated more than 450 bags of vital supplies to homeless people who will spend this Christmas sleeping on the streets of Northern Ireland.

Just a few weeks ago, Ballymoney woman Kerri Christie came up with the idea of organising ‘Blessing Bags’ for the homeless. The idea began in America and encourages members of the public to make up a bag containing socks, gloves, toiletries and snacks to give to homeless people.

Kerri and her friend Emma Wilson started up a Facebook page appealing for Ballymoney people to donate a Blessing Bag.

The women contacted the Welcome Centre in Belfast, which works regularly with homeless people around the province, and they agreed to distribute the bags.

Now just a few weeks later, Kerri and Emma travelled to Belfast to hand over an incredible 450 Blessing Bags to the organisation.

Kerri and Emma say they are “overwhelmed” with the support shown by the people of Ballymoney for an idea which began just a few weeks ago.

“It just goes to show how kind the folk of our wee town are,” said Emma.
