No changes planned for Alicante route

A SPOKESMAN for budget airline Ryanair says there are no plans to cancel its seasonal service to Alicante in Spain from City of Derry - which became the first international route from the Londonderry airport when it opened in summer 2009.

There was speculation over Ryanair's intention regarding the service.

But a spokesman told the Sentinel there are: "no changes planned to that seasonal route."

Two years ago it was revealed flights to Ryanair's Spanish hub would begin operating twice weekly from Londonderry,

Ryanair estimated the value of the new route at 45 million (€49.9 million) in tourism revenues and said 480 local jobs would be safeguarded.
