New police appeal over security alert

POLICEare asking for information from the public after a security alert in the Drumcroon Road area, between Garvagh and Coleraine, last week.

On the evening of Sunday 15 December, police received a report of males digging at the roadside and a person carrying a gas cylinder or beer keg. Police searched the area extensively from Sunday until Monday morning and nothing untoward was found.

During the alert the Drumcroon Road was closed between the Ardreagh Road and Greenhill Road and the Gorran Road closed at its junction with the Mettican Road. An ATO was tasked to the scene.

Police want to ensure that all leads have been followed, and so would ask that anyone who witnessed any type of suspicious activity in the area at the time contact police on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
