New Heenan post does not affect commitment to Magee

THE creation of a new post of Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Communication) and Provost (Coleraine and Magee) does not signify any change in the University of Ulster’s (UU) commitment to any of its campuses, Universities Minister Dr Stephen Farry has stated.

East Londonderry asked him if the creation of the new position - part of a restructuring of senior management portfolios at UU - meant a reduction in commitment to either campus.

Professor Deirdre Heenan was appointed to the new post during the summer.

Dr Farry replied that this was a matter for the University of Ulster as an autonomous body.

He advised that Departmental officials had contacted the University regarding the matter.

They replied: “The determination of the scale and the scope of the activity at each campus is the responsibility of the University’s Council and Senate.

“The restructuring of senior management portfolios, and in particular the creation of the post of Pro Vice Chancellor (Communication) and Provost (Coleraine and Magee), does not signify any change in the University’s commitment to any of its campuses.”
