Moyle's 5-a-side stars to run

FIVE members of Moyle FC will swap their football boots for running shoes this Monday.

The fantastic five - Bob Kane, Darren McKillop, Ryan McKillop, Conthleth McCaughan and Lee Watterson - are set to play in one of their toughest 5-a-side challenges to date.

The lads are taking part in this year's Belfast Marathon as a relay team.

Half of the money raised will go towards Marie Curie Cancer Care with the remainder ploughed into the Ballycastle-based team.

Moyle boss Bob said coach Stephen McGarry's mother Winnie is renowned for her work with the charity and the boys wanted to do their bit for the cause.

"The money raised will be split 50/50," Bob told the Times as he picked up a new gleaming new pair of trainers ahead of the event.

"Half will go to Marie Curie which is a great cause.

"The rest will go towards helping the club survive.

"We have 22 young lads here, the average age is 21-22 so that's keeping those boys off the streets.

"If anything ever happened the club it would be a massive loss to Ballycastle.

"People don't realise the cost involved in running a club.

"Hopefully we can raise a good total for both Marie Curie and the club and we are looking forward to the Marathon itself.

"A lot of the players, friends and families will be making the trip to support us so it should be a great day."

Meanwhile, Bob refused to comment on suggestions his new trainers were fitted with small motors and wheels for the uphill section of the course.
